Darling here in my heart

2012

Appropriating the concept of “winning hearts and minds,” a protest sing-along was set up at the CAE Railway Lecture Hall. Visitors were turned into singing participants. Together, we practiced and performed familiar, venerable songs of protest and lament, passionately and caringly infecting each other with earworms.

music: “The Internationale” (music by Pierre De Geyter, lyrics by Billy Bragg); “We Shall Overcome” (music based on “I’ll Overcome Someday” by Charles Albert Tindley, lyrics by Pete Seeger, Bruce Springsteen)
duration: 1 hour

The event was curated by Critical Art Ensemble for Winning Hearts and Minds at dOCUMENTA (13), Kassel, Germany, and realized with the assistance of Reinhard Reitzenstein.
